NatureStove Chimney Pipe Extension Kit

$34.99

Add 3 extra feet of chimney height to your tent stove setup. Kit includes 3 additional pipe sections in either 304 stainless steel (for Blaze) or titanium (for Feather), plus a spark arrestor cap. Essential for tall-peak shelters, tipis, and wall tents where the standard chimney doesn’t reach the stove jack. Compatible with all NatureStove tent stoves. Free shipping.

When the Standard Chimney Isn’t Tall Enough

Most hot tent shelters have their stove jack 5–7 feet above ground level. The Blaze Tent Stove and Feather Titanium ship with enough chimney pipe to reach that height. But taller shelters — wall tents, large tipis, high-peak canvas tents — have stove jacks at 8–10 feet. That’s where this kit comes in.

The Chimney Pipe Extension Kit adds 3 feet of additional chimney height with three extra pipe sections that match your stove’s existing chimney system. Same diameter, same material, same joint mechanism — they slip right into the existing pipe stack.

Why Chimney Height Matters

A tent stove chimney does two things: it exhausts smoke outside and it creates draft. Draft is the upward airflow that pulls combustion air through the stove — without enough draft, the stove smokes back into the tent, burns inefficiently, and produces dangerous carbon monoxide levels.

Draft depends on chimney height: taller chimney = stronger draft. When the chimney is too short relative to the stove jack height, you get:

  • Smoke blowback — Smoke comes out of the fuel door instead of going up the chimney. This usually happens in wind because the chimney isn’t tall enough to clear the shelter’s wind shadow.
  • Sluggish burn — Not enough air is pulled into the stove, so the fire smolders instead of burning cleanly.
  • Creosote buildup — Low-temperature burns from insufficient draft produce more creosote in the chimney, which is a fire hazard.

The general rule: the chimney should extend at least 2 feet above the stove jack exit, and the total chimney height from stove to cap should be at least 7 feet. If your shelter puts the stove jack higher than 7 feet from ground level, you need this extension kit.

Two Material Options

  • 304 Stainless Steel — Matches the Blaze Tent Stove chimney system. 2.75″ diameter, thicker wall, more weight but also more durable for semi-permanent installations. Each section: 12″ long.
  • Grade 1 Titanium — Matches the Feather Titanium chimney system. 2.36″ (60mm) diameter, ultra-lightweight. Each section: 12″ long. Adds just 5.6 oz total to your pack weight.

Select your material at checkout. The pipe diameters are NOT interchangeable between the two stove models — the Blaze uses 2.75″ pipes and the Feather uses 2.36″ pipes.

What’s in the Kit

  • 3 chimney pipe sections (12″ each = 36″ / 3 feet total)
  • 1 replacement spark arrestor cap (fits the extended height)
  • Storage sleeve

Installation

Pro Tip: Install the extension sections BETWEEN the stove’s existing top section and the spark arrestor — not at the bottom. This puts the extra weight at the top where it’s supported by the stove jack, and keeps the section nearest the stove at the hottest position where you want the thicker original pipe.

  • Setup: Assemble the standard chimney first. Remove the spark arrestor from the top section. Add extension sections one at a time. Place the new spark arrestor cap on top.
  • Stability: With 3 additional feet of height, use a guy wire from the chimney top to a tent stake if the shelter is in an exposed/windy location. The extra height increases wind load.
  • Disassembly: Reverse the process. Let sections cool before handling — titanium cools in ~15 minutes, steel takes ~25 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use steel extensions on the Feather Titanium stove?

No — the pipe diameters are different (2.75″ steel vs. 2.36″ titanium). Use titanium extensions with the Feather and steel extensions with the Blaze. Cross-compatibility would require adapters that don’t exist in our system.

Can I stack two kits for 6 extra feet?

Technically yes, but we don’t recommend more than 3 extra feet without additional support. Beyond 10 feet total chimney height, wind loads become significant and the friction-fit joints may separate. For very tall installations, use guy wires at the top and middle of the chimney stack.

Do I need this for a standard hot tent pyramid?

Most 1–3 person hot tent pyramids have stove jacks at 5–6 feet — the standard chimney that ships with the Blaze (8 ft) or Feather (7 ft) is sufficient. This kit is for larger shelters: wall tents, large tipis (4+ person), and high-peak canvas tents where the stove jack sits at 8–10 feet.
