The Tools That Should Come With Every Fire Pit

You bought the fire pit. You’ve got the firewood. Now you’re poking the fire with a stick you found in the yard and burning your hands pulling logs out with barbecue tongs. Sound familiar?

The Fire Pit Accessory Kit is the gear that makes owning a fire pit actually convenient. An ash shovel sized for smokeless fire pits. A fire poker long enough to keep your hands away from the heat. Heat-resistant gloves rated to 900°F. All in a canvas carry bag that hangs from a hook next to the fire pit or tosses in the truck for camping trips.

These tools are designed to fit NatureStove fire pits — the shovel matches the Ember 19″ and Ember XL 27″ interior diameters, and the poker reaches the bottom of the fire bowl without you leaning over the rim. They’ll work with any fire pit, but they’re optimized for ours.

What’s in the Kit

  • Ash Shovel — Flat-edge stainless steel blade, 18″ overall length. Sized to scoop ash from the bottom of smokeless fire pits without scraping the walls. The flat edge gets under compacted ash that a rounded scoop misses.
  • Fire Poker — 28″ stainless steel shaft with angled tip. Long enough to reposition logs from a comfortable distance. The angled tip hooks under logs for lifting and rotating without rolling them toward you.
  • Heat-Resistant Gloves — Aramid fiber (same material as firefighter gloves) with silicone grip. Rated to 900°F for 10 seconds of direct contact, 500°F for sustained handling. Long cuff protects forearms. Machine washable.
  • Canvas Carry Bag — Heavy-duty waxed canvas with leather strap. Holds all three tools plus room for fire starters or extra gloves. Hangs from a hook or lays flat in a vehicle.

Why You Actually Need These

Smokeless fire pits burn hot — that’s the point. The double-wall design creates intense heat in a compact space. That means:

  • Ash builds up faster. Efficient combustion means more complete fuel consumption, but the mineral ash still accumulates. Without a proper shovel, you’re dumping the entire fire pit upside down or using a kitchen spoon.
  • Logs need repositioning. As wood burns down, the pieces settle and can block airflow. A proper poker lets you rearrange the fire without reaching into the heat zone.
  • Metal gets hot. The rim of a smokeless fire pit during a full burn can exceed 600°F. Adding wood, adjusting the Grill Grate Pro, or removing the ash pan requires hand protection — not oven mitts, not dish towels, actual heat-rated gloves.

Care

  • Tools: Wipe ash residue with a dry cloth after each use. The stainless steel won’t rust, but ash left on metal can cause minor discoloration over time.
  • Gloves: Machine wash cold, hang dry. Don’t bleach. The aramid fiber maintains heat resistance through 50+ wash cycles.
  • Bag: Shake out debris. The waxed canvas is water-resistant — re-wax annually if used in heavy rain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these tools fit non-NatureStove fire pits?

Yes — the shovel and poker work with any fire pit. The shovel is sized for 15″–30″ diameter fire bowls, which covers most consumer fire pits. They’re optimized for NatureStove dimensions but not exclusive to them.

Are the gloves really heat-resistant to 900°F?

Yes — for brief contact (10 seconds). For sustained handling at lower temperatures (moving a warm ash pan, adjusting grates), they protect up to 500°F continuously. They are NOT for reaching into active fire or holding burning material. Think of them as protection for incidental heat contact, not firefighting equipment.

Can I buy replacement gloves separately?

Contact our support team for individual replacement items. The gloves are the most commonly replaced item in the kit since they wear out with heavy use. We recommend replacing them when the silicone grip starts peeling or the aramid shows thinning.

Do I need this kit if I already have fireplace tools?

Standard fireplace tools are 30″–36″ long and designed for wide fireplace openings. They’re awkward in compact smokeless fire pits. Our tools are shorter and sized for the tighter working space of a fire pit bowl.
